Blyde Canyon
The rolling Blyde River Canyon is only a 40km drive from Hoedspruit, and there is no shortage of things to do in and around the canyon. It’s the largest green canyon on earth and the third largest canyon in the world, and it’s practically Hoedspruit’s backyard. The closest waterfall is just off the road after crossing the Blyde River, is only a 2km hike away.
Suncatchers Ballooning
Take to the sky for an hour over the Lowveld section of the Blyde River. It’s an early start but it’s a great way to see the citrus and game farms of Hoedspruit at the foot of the Drakensberg Escarpment.
Hoedspruit Reptile Center
Hoedspruit Reptile Centre is 15km from town, an easy drive for a morning or afternoon activity with kids. This region of the Lowveld attracts a high abundance of snakes and other reptiles, making Hoedspruit a prime location for reptile research and education.
Blyde Boat Cruise
Take a scenic cruise around the Blyde dam with Blyde Canyon Safaris and be back in the Hoed for a late afternoon lunch. Blyde Canyon Safaris offer daily trips at 7 am, 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm, each trip lasting an hour and a half.
African Dream Tour

Panorama Route
The most popular stretch of the route is the R532 that winds its way from the town of Sabie via a selection of graceful waterfalls - the Sabie Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Mac Mac Falls - to God's Window, the Blyde River Canyon, Bourke's Luck Potholes and the three Rondawels.
Mariepskop Drive
On the eastern side of the Drakensberg Escarpment, facing away from the Blyde River Canyon, is the Mariepskop complex - a mountain enclave and centre of endemism of unsurpassed beauty. You can ascend to the top where, at 1,945m above sea level, you can see the Indian Ocean and Maputo on a clear day.
Pridelands Game Drives
Pridelands is open to the Greater Kruger National Park and offers abundant game viewing, including the Big 5, wild dog and cheetah. Elephants are the most frequently seen big game animals and are often seen swimming completely submerged in the waterholes.
Elephant Moments
The Jabulani Herd elephants that you will meet represent the rest of the herd which they join a little later to continue foraging during their days in the Kapama Private Reserve.
Jessica The Hippo
Since her rescue in 2000, Jessica grew from strength to strength, and today interacts with wild hippos in the river, as well as the Joubert family and their dogs, never wanting to miss her treat time. Treat time involves a snack with two bottles of tea and a back rub.
Moholoholo Rehabilitation Center
This unique Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is a home to many of South Africa’s abandoned, injured and poisoned wildlife. Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is extremely proud of its efforts in wildlife education in South Africa.
